New Zoom Security Settings Take Effect on September 27th

On September 27th, 2020, Zoom will require a Passcode or Waiting Room for all meetings as part of their efforts to improve the security of the platform. For existing meetings that do not have either a Passcode or Waiting Room enabled by September 27th, Zoom will enable a Waiting Room for you and it will be the default setting for those meetings.

How does this impact me?

If no action is taken the new waiting room settings will be enabled and meeting hosts or co-hosts will need to admit participants to their sessions. Participants will not be able to join these meetings automatically and will be placed in the Waiting Room until they are admitted by a host or co-host. Admitting participants to a session may take a significant amount of time for meetings with large enrollments.

Action Required

To allow participants to join your existing meetings without being placed into a Waiting Room or using a passcode you will need to update your Zoom account setting as directed in the ITS Recommended Zoom Waiting Room Settings: ITS Recommended Zoom Waiting Room Settings

Hosts and co-hosts may also admit participants from the Waiting Room during a meeting. See Admitting Participants from the Waiting Room During a Meeting for detailed instructions.

Please refer to the ITS Zoom Features and Announcements Website for more information. If you have questions or would like assistance updating your settings priot to the September 27th, 2020 deadline, please contact UMSN IT
